After his good showing at Masterton. Pioclaim will be looked to to run well, and the hardest to beat may be Auckland and Bonena. WAIRARAPA COUNTY CUP,

The Cup should be one of the best races of the day, and it looks one cf the most open. Merry Day is the best performer engaged, but a slow beginner will be at a disadvantage on the small course. Prin temps ran good races at Trentham, and will be one of the best backed, and there will also be a demand for Lady Ben and Bitters. Taking everything into consideration, however, Arch Salute and Lady Kotiripo should ha*** as good chances as anything else. CARTERTON HACK HANDICAP, Of 120 sovs; six furlongs.

Blonde and Debate should go well. Rose Martian when backed at Masterton, but the going there was very heavy.

BUNNY MEMORIAL, Of 160 sovs; six furlongs.

Back«di >esh, Prince Hal and Kilns havo tho best form of those engaged, and if he gets awav well Prince Hal will be hard, as he will be running on when the others are stopping.. TARATAHI HACK WELTER. Of 120 sovs; seven furlongs.

Elothenes ... 713 Prideaux ... 7 7 Auckland and Blackhead, who will he bracketed, and Eilothones are sure to attract the attention of investors. MATJNGARAICI WELTER, Of 160 sows; soven furlongs.

Lady Lady Kotiripo 8 9 Waimangu 7 7

If Prinoe Hal is started in this event as well as the Bunnv Memorial, he should go well. In his absence Petunia and Lady Kotiripo may be heard from. ELECTRIC HACK HANDICAP, Of 120 sovs; five furlongs.

Foolish will see a short price unless there is a big demand for Hytinus, who is a good beginner, and Debate.

NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “’Carbine. ”) General Advance is in light work again at Wingatui, but he will not be required ’ to carry silk for some months. Great Hope, Snowshoe and Acron are tho present favourites for the New Zealand Trotting Cup. Giantkiller, by Autumnus Brave Hqart, who was purchased from Sir Geo. Clifford by Mr A. Rhind, has been recommissioned and has gone into A. A. Wormald's care at Riccarton. Mr I'\ W. Marks, probably the oldest clerk of the scales in New Zealand, recently resigned his position with the Takapuna Jockey Club At a meeting of tho committee the resignation was accepted with regret, and the severance brought about a recognition of a substantial character from tho club. Rostrum, who won the Epsom Handicap at Randwick in 1922 and was subsequently bought by the Indian sportsman, Mr M. Goculdas. has been in winning vein recently in India. A rormrkable point in connection with Mr August Belmont's proposition for an Ainerican-British-French three-cornered match is that Air Belmont himself bred not only Tracery, the sire of Papyrus, but also Epine Blanche, the dam of the French craok, Epinard, so that if tho match actually took place he would have more than a passing interest in the champions of all threo countries. A brother to Patuki, by Solferino— Mazurka, has joined D. P. Wilson's string at Wingatui and will race in the interest of Roseday's owner/ Mr J. Richardson. Air Jas. Twohill, a well-known sportsman of Thames, who, with his partner, the late Mr M. Deeble, hod -a good string of horses in his stables—Roultline (a great sprinter), Princess of Thule, Capitol and Lady Clare, who annexed many valuable f-teeplechase and hurdle races—has donated two thoroughbreds ns gifts to tho I Thames Catholic School hezanr art. union. » One is a four-year-old mare by the im- ! ported Day Comet —Lady Clare, and the other a five-year-old mare by Spalpeen— Pnrawni. I Although Kilgour was not at Trentham ho will be a member of Mr R. A. McKen- ! *.ic's team for the Canierbury Jockey j Club's mooting. Tho Kilbroney gelding Is reported to be quite sound and he will be a at nr tor in tho New Zealand Cup. The penalty onrnod for his win at Trentham brings Pilliewinkie's New Zealand Cup weight up to 7.8. Ho will bo ridden by D. Cotton. Tho Winkio gelding is now one of tho popular picks for the two mile race. It is reported that Admiral Cod rington will not make tho trip to Riccarton for tho New Zealand Cup mooting. Tho Australian horseman, W. H. MeLac!;lon, had a field day at Doncaster (England) on September 13th, when ho did the hat trick on three of Mr Sol. Joel's horse©. MoLaohlnn during his riding carcor in Australia won thice Mol-

bourne Cups, his mounts being Prince Foote, Comedy King, and Westcourt. Ho rod© Ahnissa to victory in the Australian Cup and Maranui and Aborigine in tho Caulfield Cup, and was on Mountain Knight and Kilooy when they won the Australian Jockey Club's Derby in their respective years. Tho owner of Mumtaz Mahal, Teresina and-Dioplon, H.H. Aga Khan, does not •online his racing activities to England done, and one of his string, Niceas, by undridgo—Nike, who was the second i\st two-year-old in France last year, as sent to Spain after a fairly suc--1 t essful run as a three-year-old up to September of this year. There he won tho Grand Prize of San Sebastian on September 19th. Mr James Samson, of Dunedin, an enthusiastic supporter of trotting, has returned from a lengthy tour of Australia, and during his stay there he was on the alert for anything that could be installed as an improvement at Forbury Park. Mr Samson was particularly struck with a scratching board which figures at Newcastle, and has 'been 60 satisfactory that a similar one has been erected at Randwick. It is simple in construction, and as it stxnds elevated on four pillars it occupies a minimum of ground space. Tho numbers, etc., are displayed! on a double-sided glass frontage constructed in such a manner as to give a clear and exceUent view of the 6tarters, riders, and other information. RICCARTON TRACK WORK. There was a fair amount of galloping at Riccarton on Thursday morning:— W. Hobbs was the early bird, and started proceedings by sending Palestrina a mile and a quarter, assisted by Gay Juliet over the last nine furlongs. The Cup mare gave a very impressive showing. Bowling along in fine style, the pair crossed the line in 2min 11 2-5 sec, both pullipg up very well. Parody was next out, and skipped ever half a mile nicely in 51sec. Ballymena 'had the assistance of Murihaupo over the last half-mile of his six fuilqng gallop. The pair reeled off the last four furlongs in 50sec. Thorndale took lmin 21sec to cover six furlongs. Glentruin, with J. Lewis, a light boy up. covered. six furlongs in the good time of lmin 14 Assec, doing it very well M ild Hind, assisted by Top Score, was sent over nine furlongs. The former pleased most by her resolute style, the time being lmin 58 2-ssec. Wink finished on well at the end of five furlongs run in lmin Ssec. Winning Hit, assisted by Viewpoint, galloped a mile in lmin 44 2-ssec, both doing it nicely. Tinihanga made a show of Sabor over five furlongs, beating him by 10 lengths in lmin 4sec. Limelight, with O. Voight up, got to the end of seven furlongs very well in lmin 29sec. Spotlight, from almost a standing start, covered six furlongs in lmin 20 2-ssec. -Scorn, with a light boy up, was tiring badly at the end of a mile, tho last seven furlongs of which took lmin 32 2-ssec. Boadicea. Royal Star, and Jazz set out for a seven furlong gallop, but the firstnamed was always under a strong pull to keep with Royal Star, while Jazz was beaten off. The time was lmin 31sec, which was good for Boadicea, considering the way_she finished. Prince Ferouz easily accounted for Falstaff and Some Kid over seven furlongs run in lmin 82 2-ssec.

Wcldone, who looks improved by his race at Rangiora, sprinted along the back, going well.

Red Wink and Polyxnnian were sprinted about two and a half furlongs down the straight twice.

Paphian got through a useful gallop over five furlongs, but is not a generous goer on the training grounds. Heraldry sprinted six furlongs in lmin 20 2-ssec.

Cave Rock, assisted by a stable mate over the last part, covered a mile in lmin 47sec.

Barmaid did a useful working gallop. Piimeira and Orange Blossom were companions over six furlongs, run in lmin 21sec.

On the plough, Whipping Bor and Dinner Bell covered 6ix furlongs in lmin 23sec.

Cerberus went half a mile in 52seo. Geranial find Sunny Loch, separately, sprinted a few furlongs. Lord Ashbv (A. Campbell) and Lord Nagar (W. Williams)-gave a fine showing oyer a round of five hurdles, and Locbringa jumped six hurdles well.
