FARMERS' UNION
THE DOMINION EXECUTIVE DECISIONS AT YESTERDAY’S MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was continued in Wellington yesterday. Mr VV. J. Poison presided. On the motion of Mr H. A. Nevine, it was resolved: “That, in the opinion ‘of this Dominion executive, it is highly desirable that the various farmers’ mutual fire insurance companies should meet in conference, with the object: (1) Qf arranging a Dominion rate of insurance and rebate; and (2) of arranging a propaganda campaign with the object'of making .the advantages of this system of insurance better known to farmers; and (3) any other matters affeoting mutual insurance companies.” The meeting adopted a remit that Ruakura demonstration farm be brouglß up to date and experimental work carried out. It was reeolyed that the Government should be asked "ro carry out research experiments as to the cost of raising 100 pullets to laying age. It was deoided to ask the Government to grant financial assistance to •gg-laying competitions. It was resolved to set up a committee to confer with those who were moving in the matter of opening up trude with the East. The meeting decided that it was desirable that the union should be represented on the University- Senate, and this resolution is to be communicated to the Government. A vigorous immigration policy was favoured, and members spoke of tho need of boy immigrante. The secretary was instructed to communicate with the provincial secretaries, with a view to setting afoot a scheme for tho bringing out of suitable boys from Home. The president said at present the executive was merely affirming the principle. Before anything was done a scheme would have to be formulated.
