TUKEItUA BAY CLUB.
SUCCESSFUL OPENING
Although, the high wind prevailing last Monday made the day anything but an ideal one for tennis, tlie Pukerua Bay Tennis Club 'held a very successful opening. There was a large gathering of club members, residents, and friends, and in tho absence of the patron, Air W. H. Field, M.P., the president, Mr 11. G. Bedell, spake at some length on the untiring .support and generosity of Air C. Gray, who had practically brought tho club into being. Tho president, with a few fitting remarks, then declared the season open and all repaired to the pavilion, where a dainty afternoon tea was provided by the ladies connected with the club. A low of the most daring then braved tlie wind' and played tenuis, while the majority participated in a dance held in thi> pavilion, which was prettily decorated !.*v tlie club members for tho occasion.
Air Arthur Alarris, formerly of “Wellington, and now of Christchurch, made the trip to Wellington dining the weekend (o U* present at the opening, and renewed old acquaintances with those members when he lnew through his duties as former secretary. A social nnd dance wa.s held on Saturday evening, during which four members of the Charley’s Aunt Club—Miss Keith.
