REPUBLICAN AIM
SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONALISTS. POLICY UNPOPULAR. Ai straiten and N.Z. Cable Association LONDON, October 23. When speaking at Durban, General Hertzog was severely heokled on the question of republicanism. Replying to a question, he said that, although he believed that republicanism was the best form of Government, the Nationalist Party newer placed it as a plank in their platform. Asked if he was prepared to drop the republican objective, he said: “Never.” The Nationalist Party would not ask the people of South Africa to decide upon this or that method of Government until such time as the English and Dutch both desired it.
