She sails at 4 p.m. on Friday. The Ngaio, when she arrives at Nelson on Sunday, will withdraw from the Wellington-Nelson ferry run for one day. She will be replaced by the Kaitoa, which leaves Nelson on Monday evening, and Wellington on Tuesday evening at th» usual time. Captain A. C. Plowman, formerl yof the Waihemo, is now master of the Union Company’s motor-ship Hauraki, having taken command at Sydney. Captain Todd went sthroe at Sydney on holiday leave. Mr R. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Piako sails on Saturday from Auckland for American and East Coast of England ports. TEMPORARY LIGHT AT SUVA. Th: Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department has received the following message by wireless:— ’ Tho following warning was sent out by Suva at 8.20 p.m.:—"Owing to an accident to tho revolving lens shipping are warned that a temporary white fixed light will be shown from Naselai light until further notice. (9gd.) Harbourmaster, Suva. 1 ’ DORSET DUE MONDAY. The New Zealand Shipping Company adviso that the liner Dorset (8734 tons) arrived rt Auckland from London on Saturday night to disembark 35S thirdclass passengers and discharge about 1250 tons of general cargo. The passengers wore embarked on September 6th and departure was taken from Southampton the sama day. Fine weather was experienced during the whole of the passage to the Panama Canal, except for somo 18 hours of thick fog in the English Channel. St. Michael, in the Azores, was passed cm September 11 th and the Moha passage on September 20th, arrival being made at Codon early on the morning of the 24th. At Colon coal and water were taken in, and Canal transit m'Ade tho same day. The vessel arrived alongside the quay at Balboa early in the evening, and passengers' were given an opportunity of disembarking to enable them to visit the towns of Balboa and Panama. The following day the voyage was resumed for Auckland, and similar weather conditions were experienced across the Pacific, except for a few days prior to arrival, when strong south-west and westerly winds were encountered. During this passage the usual sports, games, dances and concerts were indulged in to relieve the : monotony of the long sea, voyage. A short stay was made at Pitcairn Island on October 9th, where tho Islanders came off to the ship in their toats with fruits and curios to barter with the passengers and crew. Captain S. ZHALANDIC FOR AUSTRALIA. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advise that the Zealandic will leave Dunedin this afternoon for Australia, where she will load for English ports. KARAMEA’S MOVEMENTS. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advise that the Karamea left Auckland yesterday afternoon for Wellington, where she is due to-m6rrow. After discharging here she will proceed to Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete. CANADIAN SEIGNEUR, Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. advise that the Canadian Seigneur, which is to arrive in Auckland to-day from Montreal, will, after discharge of New Zealand cargo, proceed to Australian ports. The cargo for southern ports will be transhipped. OBSTRUCTION IN QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND. Some time ago Captain J. Bollons, of the lighthouse steamer Tutanekai, searched for the obstruction referred to in Notice to Mariners No. 7 of February 15th, 1923, which was reported to exist in the passage between Cape Koamaru and White Bocks, at the entrance to Queen Charlotte Sound. He now reports the existence of a rooky and irregular shoal, having a least depth of 6 fathoms at M.L.W.8., and depths varying between 10 and 18 fathoms on all sides for a distance of 200 ft. F rom the shoal the Brothers’ lighthouse is visible just open of Cape Koamaru, 110 deg., and Cape Jackson is in transit with th* middle White Rock, 338 deg. The. shoal is distunt 7.5 cables from Cape Koamaru, and 4 cables from White Rocks. The passage between Cape Koamaru and White Rocks should not be used by mariner* who do not possess local knowledge, and vessels should enter or leave Queen Charlotte Sound by way of the main channels only. The Chinese steamer Ling Nam, under the agency of the Huddart-Purker Company, was to have arrived in the stream from Sydney last night, but owing to some minor trouble with steering gear did not pass the heads until early this morning. She berths at the Glasgow whurf, and will to-day discharge about 270 tons of general cargo. . She should clear Wellington to-morrow, when she will proceed to Papeete, Panama Callao and Iquique, returning to Australia with a cargo of nitrate of soda. The Ling Nam carries through cargo and passengers to South America. This is tho second trip of the Ling Nam in these waters, and the service offers a two-fold benefit to merchants, (1) those trading with China, and (2) with Papeete, Panama and South America. The purpose of the Chungwha Navigation Line is to further extend the service to Shanghai. •

LIGHT At. RAROTONGA. A fixed white light has been established on the top of the wireless roast at Rarotonga, at a height of 145 ft. Precise location, also arc and range of visibility, are not stated. Publications affected: Admiralty Chart No. 783, and Plan No. 1264; "Pacific Islands Pilot," Vol. 111., fourth edition, 1909, page 39. C. AND D. VESSELS. The C. and D. Line advises the following movements of vessels: The Port Victor sailed from Liverpool on October 23rd, with cargo for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland about December 3rd, and at Wellington a week later. The Port Denison, en route from London, left Colon on October 22nd, for Suva, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due at Lyttelton about November 21st. The Port Stephens is due at Auckland on Friday from New York. She is expected at Wellington on October 30th, and will later proceed to Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australian ports, to complete discharge. WHAKATANE IN MELBOURNE. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Whakatane arrived in Melbourne on Monday with cargo from Liverpool. She will proceed to Sydney 1 and Brisbane to complete discharge. HAURAKI AT AUCKLAND. The Union Company's motor-ship Hauraki arrived at Auckland on Sunday night, and berthed the next day to discharge 470 bogs of English, Canadian, and United States mail, and 4510 tons of cargo, including 32,000 cases of oil and 110,000 feet of timber. Cargo was loaded at Vancouver, Powell River, and San Francisoo, the last named port being cleared on September 29th with 14.060 tons of cargo, a record for the ship. Fine weather pi*evailed until the 18th inst., when a heavy south-westerly swell was encountered, slightly delaying arrival. It is expected that the Hauraki will leave Auckland about the end of the week for Melbourne, Adelaide and -Sydney to put out the remaining 10,000 tons of ner cargo. Captain A. C. Laden with general cargo from Montreal and Sydney, Cape Breton, the Hain steamer Trelyon arrived at Auckland on Sunday. Montreal was cleared on September 2nd, and Sydney (C. 8.) on the 9th, fine weather prevailing to Panama. The voyage was resumed from Balboa on September 20th, and favourable conditions' continued for the first week, followed by unsettled south-westerly weather with head seas. While passing the latitude of Pitcairn Island a hard gale was experienced, with rough confused seas; and sharp squalls. Though the weather improved for the last ten days of the voyage head winds were reported to Auckland. Captain W. Harris is in command, his officers being:—Mr A. Nance, chief; Mr W. Crocker, second; Mr D. Hennessey third; Mr P„ Rays, chief engineer; Mr F. Nansen, second; Mr T. Dinning, wireless operator; Mr Weakley, chief steward. The yessel is expected to leave Auckland for Wellington on Saturday, and from here will proceed to Lyttelton and Dunedin.
