A FORGED CHEQUE

YOUNG MAN IN TROUBLE.

“NO EXCUSE TO OFFER.”

An admission that he forged the signature “O. Beere” on a cheque for £ls was made by a young man, Henry Roy don Moore, aged 25, and a labourer by occupation, before Mr E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The cheque was cashed by Joseph Dwyer, proprietor of the Midland Ho* tel, -who, in evidenoe, declared that Moore came to him on September 24th last with the cheque. As it was a bank holiday that day no suspicion was aroused. The £ls was subsequently paid out, but further inquiries revealed the fact that the cheque had been forged. To Detective Cooper at the police station an admission was made by the accused, who explained that he had nt excuse to offer. He was at the time awaiting sentence at the Supreme Court for another offence.

A pi%a of guilty was entered by Mr C. A. L. Treadwell on behalf of Moore, who was accordingly remanded to the Upper Court for sentence.
