LONDON WOOL SALES

CHIEFLY CROSSBREDS. Australian and jn.Z.. Cable Association. LONDON, October 22. Offerings at tho October series of wool sales consisted chiefly of crossbreds, which opened at 5 per cent, to per cent, higher than closing rates in September. The offering is of 184,000 bales, including 56,000 from New Zealand, and Dawra wool will amount to 60,000. YORKSHIRE BUYERS KEEN. (Received October 24, 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 23. At the wool sales there was a full attendance of all sections, except America. In all, 12,446 bales were offered, of which 7588 were New Zealand. Practically no merinos were offered, but there \va%s a splendid selection of crossbreds, greasy and scoured*;, and slipes, the last-named •being unusually good. Urea-sy combings were keenly competed for. Medium advanced 5 to 74 per cent., coarser kinds, scoureds, and slipes rising 5 per cent. There was very keen competition from Yorkshire, which wae the largest buyer. The selection was unsuitable for the Continent. New Zealand lambs, Hastings, 26£d. "BUYERS ACTIVE.'* Ne>v Zealand ‘s6'an and Mercantile Agency Co, Ltd., have received tho following cablegram from their London house, under slate 23rd instant: — “Wool sales.—At the sales to-day oompctiHon by United Kingdom and Continental buyers was active. The catalogues were representative, Cro«sbred, but poor selection merino, and prices as compared v St.h preceding auctions at this centre ruled about the same for merino; (higher about 5 per cent to 10 per cent for medium greasy crossbred, ani higher about 5 per cent, for coarse ciossbred. others are unchanged." "COMPETITION KEEN." Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated October 23rd, 1923:—"Auctions opened here to-day with a large attendance of buyers. Competition is keen. As compared with the closing rates of last series: Merinos are Unchanged, fine halfbreds, 50/561b, Id per lb dearer: lialfbreds, 48/50lb, Id dearer j fine crossbreds, 46/481b, Id dearer; medium crossbreds, 44/461b, |d dearer; coarse crossbreds, 40/441b, id dearer; low crossbreds, 36/401b, 4d dearer. The selection of wool was only fair." "SALES OPEN STRONG." Messrs Murray, Roberts and Qo., Ltd., are to-day in receipt of a cable from their London agents, dated 23rd instant, reading as follows r 'Sales have opened strong. Good attendance of buyers; good competition. Yorkshire buyers are the principal operators. Poor selection offered, pracUcally no merino. Crossbred, greasy fine, par to 5 per cent, advance; crossbred, greasy medium, advanced 5 per cent.; crossbred, greasy coarse, par to 5 per cent, advance; crossbred, scoured, advanced 5 per cent. Slip© crossbred shows a hardening tendency." "PROSPECTS BRIGHTER," The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office, under date October 23rd:-—"The sales have opened with good competition and good demand for all kinds of wool. Prospects are brighter. Compared with the close of last series prices for medium crossbreds are to Id higher, coarse crossbreds id higher, merino and fine crossbreds unchanged." Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having received the following cablegram from their London house under date of the 23rd instant: —

"Attendance of buyers generally is large. Active demand from Continent and the United Kingdom. Selection almost entirely Australasian crossbreds. As compared with last sales closing, rates menno wools, greasy, a change in prices, if any, is in sellers' favour, few greasy merinos offered. Merino wools, scoured, a change in price, if any, is in sellers' favour Halfbred wools, greasy, prices Unchanged. Crossbred wools, fine quality, greasy, to Id higher. Crossbred wools, medium quality, greasy, Id higher. Crossbred wools, coarse quality, -greasy, id higher. Crossbred wools, scoured, prices very firm. Slipo wools, a change in price, if any, is in sellers' favour. "The following is the range of prices:— Hailfbrdd, 50-561 b, good to super 19d to 22d, low to medium 17d to 18kt; halfbred, 48-50 lb, good to super Ifijd to 18d, low to medium 14d to 15$d; fine crossbred, 46-481 b, good to super 15d to 16id, low to medium 12§d to 14d; crossbred, 44-461 b, good to super 13d to 14-Jd, low to medium Hid to 12$d; crossbred, good to super 12d to 12}d. low to medium lOd to Hid; coarse crossbred, 86401 b, good to super 10Jd to lid. low to medium 9d to 10d."
