BROOKLYN SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
At the monthly meeting of the Brooks lym school committee Mr A. J. White presided. The delegates to the School Committees’ Association reported that it is tho intention of the association to raise .£IOO *o as to be able to entertain the Chatham Island children when visit ing Wellington during tho Christina* holidays. A proposal was also submitted re exchanging of town and country school children, and the desirability of commit tees combining to purchase any or aL articles required by school committee. Permission was granted Mrs Culford Bell to hold a concert at Brooklyn on December 19th by pupils attending her claases from the Brooklyn school, proceeds to go to the funds of the school. Tenders have been let for asphalting the boys' playground. The Education Board has been asked to authorise the architect to prepare plans and specifications for the improvement of the boys’ playground. Permission was granted tho secretary of the Young Citizens' League te hold an initiation ceremony at a date to be arranged between the headmaster and the secretary. It was explained that the object of the Young Citizens’ League was to inculcate a truer and higher standard of reverence to God and the constitution and laws of our Dominion and Empire amon; our children, thereby making thorn bettor citizens. To this end the children of the fifth class and over are asked to join the league, after which each member will receive a badge. Tho offer of a tennis net for the use of children attending the Brooklyn school from the St. Matthew’s Tennis club was accepted with thanks. Satisfaction wag expressed hv members of the committee that the work of erecting additional latrines was now in hand.
