DOCTORS ON STRIKE

INSURANCE FEES DISPUTE. SERIOUS SHORTAGE. Reuter’s Telegram. LONDON. October 21. It is estimated that 12,000 panel doctors, or 80 per cent, of the total, will resign owing to the dispute over the fees payable national insurance scheme. Sir W. Joynsou-Hicks hints tli at the Government may establish a new medical service for the poorer classes if the doctors oease work at the New \ T ear. While he hopes that the doctors will not smash the system, he is confident that he will be able to organise a substitute. Hundreds of doctors, especially in the Midlands, have already handed in their resignations. The doctors point out that the resignations leave only about 2000 practitioners available for the State service, and these are mostly in the seaside and country towns. There will be a serious shortage of doctors in the great industrial centres.
