WAIKINO TRAGEDY
VICTIMS IN SERIOUS CONDITION. THE PRISONER REMANDED TO AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. WAIHI, October "20. In connection with the tragedy at Waikino, inquiries made during the foienoon elvow that the condition of Air Reid, the schoolmaster, is critical, while the other victims of the tragedy. Constable Olsen, Kathleen Garry, and the boy, Bustard, are still dangerously ill. Higgins, who was charged with murder at the Police Court this morning, presented a calm demeanour, and apparently was normal. He was remanded for eight days to the Auckland gaol Higgins is six feet in height and powerfully built. He was a Canadian backwoodsman, and came to Waikino 20 years ago, and built a Canadian log cabin in the bush in the neighbourhood of Waikino.
