“APPALLING SHORTAGE ”
HOUSES IN BIRMINGHAM. PEOPLE LIVE IN CAVES. Anstraluvr and’N.Z. Cablv Association LONDON. October 18. The Birmingham City Council is considering the construction of small wooden houses, costing £75. Hie chairman of the housing committee said that the house shortage was most appalling. People were driven to take refuge in old furniture vans, and rock caves. Thousands oFfamilies were living in two rooms, and upwards of 15,000 people wore awaiting houses.
