BIG RASE TO-DAY

PAPYRiDS IN FINE FORM DON' ~ HUE ENTHUSIASTIC. Australian, and N.Z. Cable Association (Received October 19, 7.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 13 Papyrus, with Steve Donoghue up, received his final working to-day, going a mile and a furlong in lmin 51 2-ssec. showing no signs of fatigue. Donogliue is enthusiastic over Papy rus’s endurance, which is evident from the fractional timing over the successive furlongs. Donoghuo rode an easy saddle, as though cantering and seemed to hold the horse in, while Papyrus seemed eagei to go fastei. Zev will canter lightly at to-morrow's final workout. CONFUSING RUMOURS. Later. Many rumours are current, making the preliminary situation of the Zev-Papyrus raco quite confusing. Mv Own, who has been racing in Maryland, was suddenly ordered' to be brought to Now York by special train. Admiral Grayson, the owner, declared ho was unable to understand the Jockoy Club’s purpose. Belmont Park, where tho race will be held, is a rumour-factory. It is said that Zev may bo withdrawn and My Own substituted. OWNERS AND TIPSTERS JOCKEY CLUB’S NEW RULE. Australian and N.Z. C*Mo As«octaHon. LONDON, October 18. Lord Jersey, addressing the Jockey Club, said that the stewards were proposing a new rule in order to deal with the practice which some owners occasionally adopted of running thir horses in connection with the business of advertising tipsters. The new rulo declares that any owner who by advertisement, circular letter, or other means, offers information concerning his own or other horses, or con-, nives at such a practice, is liable to dis qualification.

Starts at 2.11 p.m. A very open race. The favourite may he Kilbirtl or Mark Time. Both have recent form to recommend them, and. nothing is going better in his work than Kilbird. It is against him, however, that he is not an easy horse to ride. Ho will pull very hard, end may beat himself before the end of the journey. Bonetter will be in the Taarket, but Merry Day should hold her safe if she is forward enough. This is a little doubtful, as she was on the big "ude at Masterton. The top-weight, 'htrveyor, is tc really good horse, and he •oo.ks remarkably well. FIRST HURDLE HANDICAP, Of 400 sovs; one mile and three-quarters.
