Xewlv equipped with oil-fuel furnaces to raise steam for her triple propellors tiie Union Company's turbine steamer Maori has cleared Port Chalmers for Wellington. During the period she was laid up at Port Chalmers she was converted to an oit burner, and this is expected to enhance her value and increase her popularity in the ferry service between Lyttelton and Wellington. Pro\inusly : n that service all her furnaces won not in use, for it meant the carrying of extra stoker-, and the consequently reduced power was further handicapped at times by bad coal and unhappy firemen. Her conversion to oil fuel is calculated to eliminate those difficulties. A very credit able steaming performance is looked for on the run iij> to Wellington where oil fuel supplies are to be prior to her taking up tho ferry inn to Lyttelton to-morrow evening. The initial itinerary may have, to he "lightly modified, because the "Maori had 1.) anchor outside Otago Heads for seveml hours, probably owing to some minor mi-hnp in the machinery department. She took her departure from Otago Heads at 2 p.m
