BRITISH LICENSES, 227,000. ISSUED IN 10 DAYS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received October IS, 7.45 p.m.) LONDON, October IS. Sir L. Worthington-Evans, speaking at Colchester on broadcasting, said that during 10 days there were 227,000 applicants for licenses, bringing profit both to the broadcasting company and the public. A total of something under £200,000 would go to the company. There waa no fear, of the company making an extravagant profit, because it was entitled to make only 71 per cent, profit. The surplus would be surrendered to the* Poet Office
