DEFENCE POLICY
MAKING MILITARY SERVICE EASY. STATEMENT BY SIR R. H. RHODES Per Tress Association. CHRISTCHURCH, October 18. The Hons. W. Noeworthy and Six R. 11. Rhodes were among the speakers at the luncheon at*the Ellesmere A. and P. Show to-day. On the question of defence, Sir R. H. Rhodes said he was making every effort to render military service as easy as possible by substituting continuous training instead of KaTf-day parades, which had been found irksome by some. The day of peace, he said, had not yet dawned, and it was essential to make some provision against attack, and not rely altogether ov the navy. Ho was looking to the Imperial Conference in London to gain some idea of what our defence policy of the future should be, how much should be left to the navy, and how much to the air service.
