MAGISTRATE’S COURT
YESTERDAY'S SITTING POLICE AND INDICTABLE CASES. Messrs R. D. Hanlon and I. S. Donaldson, justices of the peace, presided at tho Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when police and indictable offences were dealt with. One first offender for drunkenness was convicted and discharged. Archibald McNaughton, with three previous convictions for drunkenness, was fined 40s, in default 14 dayra’ imprisonment. DESERTING A SHIP. Charged with deserting from the a.a. Kia Ora, Alfred Douglas Gordon, a trimmer, 19 years of age, was remanded until to-day. ALLEGED BIGAMY. Charles Edward William Phillips, 43 years of age, was charged with committing bigamy by having married Laura Elizabeth Corney at the parish church, Lymineter, Sussex, England, and being already married, did go through a form of marriage with Ellen Rose Petersen before the registrar, Wellington. Accused was remanded for one week. Bail was fixed at £SO. Henry ltoyden Moore was remanded for one week on a charge of forging a cheque for £ls on the Bank of New Zealand, purporting it to be drawn by O. Becre.
