REAL MELODRAMA
ACTRESS BEATEN ON STAGE. AUDIENCE APPLAUDS. Australian and N.Z. Gable Association. ROME, October 15. During a melodrama in a Naples theatre a man appeared from the wings and threatened to beat the leading lady unless she returned to live with him. The audience, unaware that the man was the actress’s husband, loudly applauded the realism of the acting. F.ven when the man beat the woman with a stick the audience did not guess the truth. Finally, the members of the company rushed to the rescue of the leading lady. The actress was taken to the hospital and the husband to gaol.
