WANGANUI NOTES

(By "Eileen.") Miss Gallally, of Wellington, has been spending a fortnight with her 6ister, Mrs Nicholson, of Liihton street. She returns this week. ' Mr and Mrs Francis, of Tim&ru, are spending a few days with friends in Wanganui. They intend doing Rotorua before returning home. Mrs L. Barkman, of Gonville, returned from Taibape this week. She has been visiting her sister, Mrs Worth. Miss Webb, of laffiton street, has returned from her trip to. New Plymouth. Mrs Marsack, of Auckland, is visiting her father, Mr J. P. Watt, Wanganui. Dr Elisabeth Gunn intends holding another health camp for children on her return from Australia. Miss Chapman, of Wellington, was in town last week. Mr Donald MacDonald, of Auckland, with Mrs MacDonald and their three daughters, have booked their passages by the Corinthic for England in February. Mrs MacDonald and her daughters are at present staying in Wanganui. The. competitions closed on Saturday afternoon. The season of ten days and evenings have proved very successful. Hon. Mr Rigg, who was judge of ©loci* tic a for the competitions, was the guest of the Y.M.C.A. committee at a luncheon. The ohair was occupied by the president, Mr Hector Christie. Mr Rigg was very pleased with the elocutionary i>art. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister for Railways, was in town on Thursday'evening, and left on Friday for New Plymouth. We have had quite a number of visits from Ministers of the Crown lately, Mr Coates being here twice within a snort time. The winners for Mrs Craig’s prize (stroke match) played on the Belmont links on Tuesday, are Mrs Hoult, silver button; Mrs Grummitt and Mrs Williains tied for second place (bronze button). The Technical College held their monthly meeting last Tuesday evening. There were present—Mrs Veitch. Messrs C. P. Brown (chair)* Bruce, Luxford, Bott, Richardson, Swanger, Paterson, Duggan, Lawrence and Edwards. The various committees for the year were appointed, and it was deoided to hold Parents’ Day on Friday, November 2nd. At a meeting of the Wanganui War Memorial Committee, held early last week, it was decided to make arrangements for the unveiling on Armistice Day. A meeting of the executive is to be held on Monday evening to make all arrangements. The Harbour Board's loan poll for .£200,000 took place on Wednesday. Considering the amount of the loan the voting was very small, especially considering the number of ratepayers in the district; 800 votes were cast for the laon all over the district, and 69 against. At a meeting of head teachers and school committees, held on Saturday evening, the question of the health oamp was discussed. There is a sum of about «£l5O to raise for expenses, and some of those present seemed to think the Government should provide the funds, as the parents of late seem to have to find money for so many things. Steady rain set in on Saturday night and ought to do a lot of good. '
