WATERSIDER’S ACCIDENT
CIaAJM AGAINST OWNERS. MATTER BEFORE FULL COURT. The Union Steamship Company of New Zealand, Ltd , the defendants 1 in a compensation claim brought against them by John William Boyce, a waterside worker, applied to the Full Court yesterday for a new trial. The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) presided, and the other members of the court were Mr Justice Hosking, Mr Justice Herdman, Air Justice Salmond, and Mr Justice Reed. Mr O. C. Mazengarb appeared for Boyce, and. Mr P. Levi-and Mr <\ G. White for the company. The claim had arisen through an accident while the plaintiff was working on '•no of tho defendant company's ships. The jury awarded him the sum of .£561, the lull omoint claimed, less compensation paid.
The petitioner then moved for judgment, and the defendants did likewise. The matter was then adjourned for fur-t!-.or consideration. The defendants later moved for a new trial on the ground that lho verdict was against tho weight of evidence.
All the mattery wore eventually refer* red to tho Full Court for consideration. Argument was not concluded yesterday, and the caee will be resumed this mornins.
