Seooni Lieutenants J. T. McCaw, J. R. Auddte, and T. G. Hislop have passed the examination and qualified for promotion. Mr A. Phillips has tendered his resignation as a member of the Otahuhu Borough Council, as he is leaving the district to take up fanning at Waiuku. The Bishop of Wellington (Dr Sprott) has licensed the Rev. William Tye, BA., in the parochial district of FeiJding, an<t the Rev. O. S. O. Gibson, in the parish of St. Matthew, at Masterton. Mr Thomas R. Blackley, of the Pacific Cable Board, arrived in Wellington on Wednesday by the Tahiti from Fanning Island. He will commence hie duties next week as superintendent of the board’s Auckland office. Dr W. E. Bitter, who represented tho University of California ana the Californian Academy of Sciences at the recent Pan-Pacific Science Congress in Australia. is visiting New Zealand. Mir A. Shrimpton, chief P. and T. engineer, is at present in the South Island, visiting Dunedin, Invercargill, and Christchurch on departmental business He expects to return to Wellington by the end of the week. Mr G. W. Jenner returned to Wellington on Saturday from Wanganui, where he has been acting as stage manager at the competitions. Mr Temple White returned on Friday.
