PETONE AFFAIRS
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING HALF-YEARLY ACCOUNTS. The Mayor, Mr J. W. Mcßwan, presided over last evening's meeting of the Petone Borough Council. There were also present—Councillors C. P. Brocklebank, V. Jacobson, R. H. Jones, A. J. Pointon, H. Jay, W. Hay, and W. P. Coles. A letter was received from the acretary of St. Augustine's Boy Scouts asking the assistance of the council towards sending a Scout to represent Petone and New Zealand at the Britisn Empire Exhibition in London. —The request was declined. Messrs H. G- Rutter and Co. wrote in connection with Miss Campbell's ten semi-detached concrete cottages in Riddler’s crescent, asking if the council would agree to a subdivision to enable the cottages to be sold separately.—The matter was held over pending further investigations. OFFICERS’ REPORTS. The engineer reported the progress of various road works, which included regrading and metalling of Jackson street east, the kerhing of Richmond street, south of Jockson street, clearing of water tables in Koto Koro road, and the Patrick street extension work. The filling of No. 2 ground on the recreation ground is completed i grass has been sown, and the ground is now to be rolled. Building permits for four dwellings, together with one semi-detached and 11 iaiscellaneous structures, were issued, to total value of .£4407. The total fees amounted to JJI4 ss, the value for tho year ,£27,260 10s, and the total value of the year's fees was .£92 15s.
that four cases of infectious diseases were reported to the office, namely one of scarlet fever, two of diphtheria, and one of tuberculosis. Circulars to householders re refuse collection will be forwarded during the present month. The annual licensee issued during the month amounted to £l4 2s 6d. INCREASE IN OVERDRAFT. The statement of half-yearly accounts showed that the bank debit balance increased during the half-year ended September SOtb by approximately £2200, although the rates collected for this halfyear exceed those collected for the same period last year by JBSOO. The increase was mainly due to the fact that works are being oarriod out in anticipation of moneye to bo received from the sal© of Gas Board debentures, none having as yet been sold.
