EXCELLENT RACING KING- CARNIVAL "WINS GUINEAS EASILY. STAKES TO MAID OF THE MIST. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received October 15, 8.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 14. The Victoria Amateur Turf Club’s races, which were postponed from Saturday, syere held at Caulfield to-day in fine, bright weather. . The attendance was large, but 25 per cent, less than last year's. The going was good, and great racing was witnessed. Heroio, with a 101 b penalty, looted a winner in the Debutante Stakes to the half distance, but Versine, who was lying fifth after the start, came with a great run and won narrowly on the -post. Kaiwarra. -who was named after the birthplace of the New Zealand trainer, McGrath, was third. R. Lewis was loudly applauded for his success on Versine, who is bred by the owner. Whittier was comfortably beaten in the States by Maid of the Mist, who led from half a mile. The Cypher, who was last at one stage, finished a good fourth. Maid of the Mist has Bst 4lb in the Melbourne Cup. She is trained by John Anwin. . King Carnival won the Guineas very easily, and received a good reception. He is owned by Mr L. K. S. McKinnon, chairman of the Victorian Racing Club. He has engaged Berry, the New Zealand jockey, for the Melbourne Cup, in which the horse will carry 7st 71b. In the Stakes the last half-mile was done In ss}sec. There was a great race in the Toorak Handicap, Sonora was ridden out, and won narrowly in fast time.
