MARIST OLD BOYS’ BAZAAR MISS B. BRENNAN WINS QUEEN CONTEST. A considerable amount of excitement was aroused by the fine pull of the tug-of-war contest in which Petone and Marist mot. Alter a very even pull Petone received the decision. It was a well earned effort. In presenting the medals to the winners Mr Stevens, president of the Marist Brothers’ Old Boys’ Association, found occasion to congratulate the Petone team on thoir well-deserved win and on their sterling qualities ns sportsmen. He nleo took the opportunity to thank, on behalf of his executive, the 6tall-holder&, their assistants, and! all those who had helped to make the bazaar the success it undoubtedly was, and to thank the general public for tlieir generous support. It is seldom that the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall has held a crowd as larg-j as that which was present on Saturday evening, the final night of the Marish Brother®* Old Boys’ Association bazaar. Early in the evening till close on midnight the hall was literally crowded to the very doors. It was indeed a fitting reward to the energetic band of workers who laboured so hard to make the bazaar the great success it was. A dainty dancing exhibition was given by the pupils pf the Misses Williams and Gibbs’s School of Dancing, the following being the items Autumn ballet, by pupils of the school; Russian dance, Mavis Boon; song, "Pain in the Saw* dust,** Joan Harris; acrobatic specialty, Mnver Twin©; Spanish dance, Winnie Mnpnlobeck; operatic dance, Gracie Ward; harlequin dance, Jean Ridger; toe dance, Muriel Wilton; "My Banjo Girl,” Harris: and flower ballet, dnisv (Wfnnie Mapplebeek). rose (Gladys Rmvtheb sweet pea 'Joan Hinton), poppy (Olive McKenna), pansy (Mavis Boon), bluebell (Marjorie Newport). The Queen competition, which all along had been causing the keenest of rivalry, was conoluded. and the final count revealed the St. Mary of the Angel’s candidate, Miss B. Brennan, top of the poll with 38.620 votes: Wellington South candidate. Miss N. Morley, 85,700 votes, second : with St. Joseph’s candidate. Miss A. McParland. 23.879. and Thomdnn candidate, Miss B. Berry, 16.285 third and fourth respectively. As a result of the bazaar the funds of the association will benefit to the extent of about .£ISOO.
