Major Stanley, Oxford University on the Rugby Union, sued George Harnett, .formerly a mem. her of the Rugby Union Committee, and the “Pall Mall Gazette” for libel in relation to jm article commenting on the Lawton football controversy. The plaintiff complained that the article accused him of inducing a member of the Rugby Union to raise the question of Lawton’s status in order to get Lawton suspended. The action was settled by the defendants apologising and the payment of costs.
