ENCOURAGEMENT OP TRADE. VICE-CONSUL AT WELLINGTON. Attention was recently drawn to the fact that owing to the absence of a viceConsular officer for Brazil in Wellington, some difficulty 'had been experienced in getting documents for goods shipped to Rio Janeiro vised. As a matter of fa«*t the local Consul for Portugal has been good enongh to act in several instances that have arisen, as an emergency measure. The Department of Industries and Commerce has brought the matter to the notice of the Consul for Brazil in the Commonwealth, whose address is Sydney, New South Wales, urging that in the interest of trade between New Zealand rnd Brazil a Vice-Consul be appointed at Wellington as soon a« possible. A reply has now been received from Mr J. E. Barron, Consul for the United States of Brazil, Sydney, in which he fully agrees that a Vice-Consul should be apixdntcd at Wellington, and notifying that’he lias made a recommendation to that effect to the Brazilian Government, and will communicate further with the department when he is in receipt of a reply. In the meantime, Mr Barron suggests (hat in order to temporarily assist any exporters in New Zealand or any section of tho public who mar require Consular legalisation of documents <festined for Brazil, such persons ran secure the necessary vises by sending the documents to him. as in the absence of a duly authorised representative in New Zealand, such official nets -performed by bim will hold good according to Brazilian regulations.
