MEETING OF COUNCIL. Mr R. C. Kirk presided over the month* Jy meeting of tne council of the New Zealand Golf Association, the other members present being Messrs H. K. Balneavis, A. D. S. Duncan, W. E. A. Gill, M. W. Horton, and A. F. Roberts. A statement of finances showed cash in the bank on deposit, and at the Post Office Savings Bank, totalling X 228 6s 6d. Various matters were dealt with in connection with the professionals* tournament to be held at New Plymouth on April 12th, 13th and 14th, at which prize money amounting to over «£l5O will be given for the competitions. __ There will be a professionals* championship, four rounds of medal play, for which the total prizes will be JESO, and there will also be four handicap events of J 825 each, two of which will be played concurrently with the championship roUnde. There has also been a special prize of M 5 5s given by the “Taranaki Herald** for the best gross round of 18 holes during the tournament. It was reported that Messrs H. E. Partridge and Co. (N.Z.), Ltd., have given a prize of MSS which will provide prize money for one of the four handicap events, and various other firms have been written to asking for their support for the tournament. The total length of the new course at Wanganui, over which the tournament will be played, will be 6279 yards. The fixing of the actual date of the tournament and drawing up of the programme was left over till a later meeting. , A letter was received from the New Zealand representatives of Mr G. Brodie Breeze, of Glasgow, offering a silver cup to the value of about 50 guineas, which he suggests should be accepted by the council, to be held from year to year bv the winner of the New Zealand Open Championship. Mr Breeze also offered to give a gold medal to the value of MS to the winner each vear, and suggests that if the cup should be won by the same competitor three successive times it should become hio own property. The council decided to accept the offer with thanks, but to suggest that the cup should never he won outright, hut should be a permanent challenge trophy for the winner of the open championship. It was also decided to suggest to Mr Breeve that instead of giving a gold medal to the winner each year it would be very much appreciated if he would instead give a miniature of the Brodie Breeze Cup.
