FERRY STEAMER’S MISHAP

SHIPWRECEKED IN SMOOTH WATER. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 4. Picnickers by the ferry steamer Britannia. had a novel experience' on Saturday morning, being shipwrecked in smooth water as the vessel grounded on a reef near St. Heliers- The Britannia went on the reef at full speed; but fortunately the reef is flat sandstone. The passengers, numbering from 200 to 300, wdre transferred to another ferry boat. The Britannia was refloated in the evening, and, apparently, is undamaged. The ree| is marked by beacons at either end.
