In sentencing a woman of the vagrant class to three months’ imprisonment for theft from the person, to which she had pleaded guilty in the lower court, Mr Justice Adams said that magistrates in suoh cases might reduce the charge to its real character, namely, simple theft, and deal with it summarily, as the sending of cases to the higher court incurred heavy expense.
