CORNWALL IN TROUBLE. The Cornwall, which is well-known in Wellington, whore she 'recently arrived, is, according to advice received, in trouble at Colombo. The . Cornwall has arrived. at Colombo, and the insulation No. 3 hold was smouldering. The ' cargo was being shifted. She has been" surveyed. This vessel is bound Australian ports, to the United Kingdom. NEW AMERICAN LINE* The American Trading Co. of. Australia have teen appointed agents for the St. Just S.S. Co., Ltd. (Sir Williajn Reardon Smith and. Sons, Ltd., of Cardiff, managers), at Sydney, Brisbane, delaide, Fremantle, and New The first.steamer of the line, the Jersey City, sailod from Philadelphia, on November 28rd. and Port Arthur (Texas), via Panama Canal, for Brisbane ana Sydney. She should reach Australia about the end of the month. The Jersey City is a fine style of cargo carrier, with a deadweight capacity i of 10,000 tons, and her capacity for cargo i is 477,200 cubic feet. She was built ,in 1920, her registered gross tonnage be- : ing 6322 and net 3837 tons.

PORT ELLIOT DUE TO-MORROW. . The reappearance of the large Commonwealth and Dominion liner Port Elliot, which is due at Wellington tomorrow, recalls her stranding on the Rangitikei bench, when, in 1913, she wan loading on the oost under her original name as the Inaabarah. After being stranded on a lee shore for two months she was floated on July 6th, and the "save" has remained the biggest in the annals of Dominion shipping. She was firmly embedded in the sand 26 miles south of Wanganui with both propellers damaged, and was lying in & "deep hole," looking for all the world 1 as though she was sailing right for the beach, only a quarter of a mile to go to touch the high-water mark. The work of refloating was carried out by the aid of six-ton "mushroom" anchors, and just before midnight, when the tide was exceptionally high, four-ton stookless anchors were laid by the tug Terawhiti, and the big liner cut her way through the last sandbank with her own sorewg working and the tug giving, assistance.

PINNA ARRIVES. The Pinna, from Singapore via Auckland. arrived at Wellington, last evening, and anchored in the stream. She will berth in the morning, and is expected to sail next week tor Lyttelton. CULNA FROM MEXICO. The British-India steamer Culna which is due at Wellington oil Wednesday, January 24th, from the Gulf of Mexico via Auckland, has 48,000 cases of oil and 4000 tons of eulphur to discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Tne sulphur was loaded at Galveston, Texas, and tbe slag, oil, and general C&rgo at New Orleans, Louisiana. After completion of loading at the latfor port the Culna called at Pensacola for bunkers, end ctoared there for Auckland on December 18th, and experienced' fine weather to Auckland. The Culna is 6152 tons register, and is commanded by Captain S. S. Slightham, who has with him tbo following officers:—Chief, Mr R. O. Brown; second, Mr K. G. Pullman; third. Mr R. A. Yeoman; chief engineer, Mr J. Ritchie. The vessel'usually trades to India and Eastern countries, and carries Lascar seamen and firemen and and Genoese stewards. THE WEST BAHOKIA. The steamer West Bahokia, due at Auckland from San Francisoo on January 28tfi, has 30,000 ft of lumber. 16,200 oases of benzine, and ,250 cases of kero, sene for this port. PORT HUNTER LEAVES! The C. and D. lane advise that the Port Hunter, which left Wellington yesterday for Lyttelton, will be dispatched finally from that port about Tuesday next for London,

WEST CAHOKIA FOR DOMINION. Bound from San Francisco for New Zealand and Australian ports, the steamer West Cahokia loft the Pacific Coast on December 30t'h. She will proceed to Auckland, Wellington, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle, and Brisbane. HOLLYWOOD FOR WELLINGTON. Cable advice from -San Francisco states that the steamer Hollywood left that port on January 6th for Auckland. From the latter port elie will come hack to Wellington; and sails from here for Australian ports. REDUCTION IN FARES. Passenger fares from Sydney to London, via America, are to be reduced by the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand, Limited. Both their services, the Union Roj'al Mail Line and the Canadian-Australasian Royal Mail Line, will be affected.

According to advice in .Sydney, firstclass fares will be .£125, and second-class £B9. The fares from Sydney to San Francisco and from Sydney to Vancouver, however, are to remain unchanged. The new rates will come into force on bookings for the Maknra. which is to sail on January 25th for Vancouver, MOERAKI FOB MELBOURNE. Advice has been received by the Union Steamship Company that the ‘intercolonial steamer Moeraki is expected to arrive at Melbourne on Monday, and is to leave that port on January 24th for Wellington direct. CHARTER FOR DOMINION. Messrs G. H. Scales, Ltd., have received advice of their second chartered vessel which is coming to the Dominion. The vessel, the Hannah, is now on her way out, and is due at Wellington about the' end of February, where she will load-for the United: Kingdom. MAIMOA FROM SOUTH. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Com pany’s steamer Maimoa is expected to arrive here to-morrow from 60U'th, and is to Bail about the following Thursday for Auckland and Napier. From the latter port she will be dispatched about February 2nd for London, via New York and Boston. CANTERBURY STEAMERS. The Canterbury Steamship Company advise that the Breeze is due on (Sunday from Wanganui, and is to sail on Tuesday for_ Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin. The Calm is loading at Bluff, and proceeds to Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton. Adelaide, returning to the Pacific Coast via Newcastle.
