BEWARE PICKPOCKETS
A CANO IN THE CITY POUCH INSPECTOR MdLVENEY ISSUES WARNING, EXPERT THIEVES AT WORK, A gang of light fingered gentry, whose “profession” necessitate® their attendance at race meetings or places where large gatherings of people are assembled, are reported to be operating in the city. The unwelcome attentions of these migrant® were rather unpleasantly felt at the recent race meeting at Petone. Speaking to a ‘Times” reporter yesterday, Inspector Mcllveney. urged the need for care when moving in a crowd, and particularly at toe race meeting to-day, as no donbt they would be attracted there in the hopes of looting some pocket. These adepts seem particularly successful at flip pockets, and care should be taken in the safeguarding of money carried about.
