WOMAN EXPLORER
AMERICAN EXPEDITION IN EAST AFRICA. A party of four Americans, one of them a woman, recently arrived at Southampton oil their way to the Tanganyika territory in East Africa. The expedition is a highly danger-' ons undertaking, and if the members succeed, Mrs J. W. Clark, the wife of che leader, will be the first woman to get behind the arid belt, which has baffled explorers, and prevented an investigation of the highlands of the greater craters. It has been decided to travel by night, in order to avoid the deadly tsetse fly, and the party will make their way across the arid belt by the aid of lamps. The expedition hopes to secure specimens of the black rhinoceros and prehistoric remains, as well as mineral specimens.
