LIBERAL RALLY

HELD IN AUCKLAND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR WEIUNGTON EXECUTIVE. LIBERALS AND GOVERNMENT. (Special to “New Zealand Times.”) AUCKLAND. January IS. That .Liberalism was neither dead nor even dying, but in a very healthy state, was again evidenced, when a large and enthusiastic meeting of the Auckland Provincial Council was held, -Mr M. J. Coyle presiding. In addition to a large representation from all city and suburban branches, delegates from country districts were present. The chairman, in expressing his pleasure at the very representative gathering, congratulate*! tho delegates from Whangarei and Cambridge branohes on returning Liberal members at the recent election. Renorts of delegates were all in the direction of very satisfactory progress having been made in rallying Liberal supporters to take a more earnest interest in the work of promoting the cause, and judging by the confident manner in which they were able to' advise the federation of the progress being made, the health of Liberalism was considered highly satisfactory. A draft constitution was submitted, and with some amendments and additions adopted. Officers for the ensuing year, which it is proposed shall for the first term end in June next, were appointed. Some remits from branches, together with suggestions from members present, it was agreed to send on to the executive in Wellington for approval and adoption throughout the Dominion. The rumours that certain members Who were returned to Parliament by the votes of Liberals were likely to disfranchise their constituents by voting with the Reform Government was a subject of discussion. Apart from the fact that as candidates all these members were strenuously fought in their electorates by the official nominees of Reform, it was considered unbelievable that any member , who had professed his belief in Liberalism would betray the cause to maintain a Conservative government in power. Viewed from all points the meeting was highly successful, and the federation with its branches will he a force whose weight will be a strong factor in elections in the future.
