ODDFELLOWSHIP
IN THE WAIRARAPA. PRESENTATION TO P.G.M. BRO. D. P. LQASBY. The annual meeting of the Loyal lirertown Lodge Manchester Unity Oddfellows was held on Wednesday night. Visitors were present from other Wairarapa lodges. Officers of Loyal Masterton lodge took' charge of the lodge for the meeting, and duly initiated four new members. ' The annual report and balance-sheet was adopted, and shows the lodge to be the most financial lodge in Wairarapa, and members intend to make the lodge numerically stronger outing the present year.
It was also decided to go into the question of building a new lodge room at an early date, the present room being too' small. MANY YEARS OF OFFICE.
P.G.M. Brq. D. P. Loasby resigneo from the position of secretary, an office he had filled for 42 years, and the financial position of the lodge i« due to tbe careful and untiring energy displayed by Brother Loasby during his many years of office.
D.G.M. Bro. Loasby has been Grand Master of Wellington district for two terms, and bae also held the highest office members can bestow upon a worthy brotuer—that of Grand Master of the New Zealand branch. Very few district conferences have met without Brother Loasby being present, and he has again been appointed delegate to the district conference, to be held next month. _ Although retiring from the secretarial duties of his lodge, Brother Loasby stated he would never give up the noble work of Oddfellowship. whitfh was to him a life’s work and a labour of love, and would be do While life lasts. P.G. Bro. W. Gates moved that fin. Loasby’s resignation be accepted with regret, and feelingly referred to tbe long years of office. He knew that the late chief was not parting, but was go ing to assist the new secretary, and upon the motion of Bro. Gates, Brt>. Loasby was unanimously elected treasurer of the lodge. D.G.M. Bro. J. Langley, on behalf ot Greytown Lodge, presented Bro. Loasby with a full set sHver tea service on tray. In recognition of past services, and expressed tbe wish that many years of happiness would be still in 6tore. He asked Bro. Loasby to look upon the present as a 6inall token of esteem'. Members knew they could never recompense Bro. Loasby for the noble service he has rendered Oddfellowship. The retiring secretary, taken by surprise. thanked members for the gift, and stated he would continue to work for the Order. At the close of the lodge a good supper was provided, and Bro. R. Carter, of Masterton Lodge, who had presided at the meeting, thanked the lodge for the welcome extended and. for the pleasant evening spent.
