MAGISTRATE’S COURT
YESTERDAY’S SITTING. A NUMBER OF REMANDS. Mr E. Rage* S.M., presided at a sitting on the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when a number of first offenders on minor charges were dealt with. Frederick Marshall, alias Bogan, who is awaiting sentence on a number of other charges, appeared, on a charge of attempting tp obtain money by means of a valueless cheque, and on the application of Senior-Detective Lewis, ho was remanded for a week. Remands were granted in the oases of William Holland Makin, Leonard Walter Makin, and Percy Dawley Hawkins. In connection with the last named accused, at the request of Mr A. W. Blair, v.-ho appealed in his interests, he was permitted to return to New Plymouth and report to the police there. All three will appear in Wellington in a week’s time. In the case of Joseph Thomas Woolley, charged with the theft of certain jewellery, a remand of one day was granted. Bail was allowed. Roland Thomas Ferguson, whom it is alleged, set fire to a house at Lower Hutt, was also remanded until the following day. In the ease of Ralph Antonovitch, alios Smith, who appeared on a charge of reooiving certain articles, a week’s remand was granted. Victor Lynn Norris, aged 16, and Thomas “William Francis, plumbers, who pleaded guilty to the theft of certain metal and brass th© property of the firm of Jenkins and Stack, were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. As both prisoners were so young, and owing to the long vacation being now in operation, the magistrate admitted them to bail.
