WORK OF FEDERAL COURTS. FINES TOTAL 5,000,000 DOLLARS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received January 10, 10.10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 9. The Department of Justice- announced that violators of prohibition laws brought before Federal Courts since July, 1921, have beta fined 5,000,000 dollars and sentenced to a total of 2000 years’ gaol. An interesting fact pointed out is that the Federal docket in connection with those States which were wet before national prohibition was carried are crowded with prohibition violation oases ; while States which had local prohibition before national prohibition have the fewest number of pending oases.
