THE SCHOOLS

SUCCESSFUL PUPILS TERRACE SCHOOL THE BREAKING-UP. The hum of anticipation was evident at the Terrace school yesterday morning —breaking-up time was near. The’chairman of the School Committee, Sir A. Johnson, attended to present the certificates and prizes, and the classes were greuped to contribute concert items'. The infants were treated, also, to a bran tub’, with its mysteries, by the Sixth Standard girls. Mr Johnston congratulated the pupils upon the regularity of their attendance throughout the year, as evidenced by the large number of first-class attendance certificates (72) that had been earned, and upon their success on the sports field. He noted that the football and basket-ball teams had done very well, that the school had maintained a creditable position in the tennis tournament right up to the finals, and that the senior cricket team had won the championship. In this connection he had been pleased to accept from Mr R. W. Edwards a large framed photograph of the team, to be hung in the school. On the intellectual side the chairman noted that the school had done exceptionally well; hut most important of all, he said, there wss every evidence that the high tone of the Terrace school was being well maintained.
