RECIPROCAL TARIFF
CANADA AND AUSTRALIA. ‘By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. MELBOURNE, September .2. ■ Negotiations are proceeding between Canada hnd. Australia for the arrangement of a reciprocal tariff agreement. The Tariff Board is engaged in ,preparing schedules of items, and Canada has also been • requested to prepare a schedule. The report that Australia contemplated negotiating a reciprocal trade agreement with Canada led a member to ask the Minister, for Customs in the New Zealand House of Representatives Mast week if he had in mind ’any steps to increase New Zealand' trade with Canada.. The Hon. W. Downie Stewart replied that the present, relations between Canada and New Zealand were good. Each gave the other its British preference,, and the trade ran into some hundreds of thousands annually, whereas Australia’s trade with Canada was a nominal amount. It was possible, however, that the trade would be improved, and the matter was not being lost sight of.
