WARSHIPS SUNK
A JAPANESE JISASTER. MOST OF CREW PERISH. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. TOKIO, August 30. It is .reported \ .that the,. Japanese cruiser Nditaka, was sunk in a typhoon on August 26th off Kamchatka, and 300 of the crew were drowned 1 . The Niitaka; of 3410 tons, was completed in 1904. She carried six 6in, ten Sin guns, and’ one pr anti-aircraft gun. Her complement was 387. STRIKEB A ROCK LOSS OF FRENCH BATTLESHIP. PARIS, August 26. The battleship France was returning from the manoeuvres when she struck a rook off Quiberon Bay, and sank in eleven fathoms. Three lives are reported to have been lost. -The France wa® completed between 1913-16, and, with a tonnage of 23,100 tons, carried twelve 12in, twenty-two 5.6 in, and four 3pr guns.
