GREAT GAME IN SEMI-FINAL. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. PALMERSTON N., August 30. 4. crowd, numbering 41)00, watched the semi-final game in the North Island, competition. for the Mcascar Cu.p, which was played on the Show Grounds between Te Auto College and Auckland Grammar School.- The weather and ground were all that could be desired, and a elasliing game‘ resulted. Auckland Grammar School owe their win to a fast, clever set of backs. The tackling on both sides was low and deadly, and from the start to the finish the game was .played at a cracking pace. During the second half the Maoris had. hard luck in not scoring, fo. they were within an ace of it on several occasions. Auckland Grammar School won by 11 points to 6. PLAY DESCRIBED. After a series of splendid back efforts 111* Auckland boys carried the ball almost to Te Aute's line, and from a scrum CaslunoTe got possession, slid through all hands, and ©cored a clever try. Tho kick failed. Grammar School 3 Te Auto 0 The presence of Rangi Akura in the Te Aute five-eighths' line put stiffening and assurance into the baoks, and his capital ‘work was responsible for the opening that gave Sparks an opportunity to dive across. Grammar School 6 To Auto 3 In tho second half McLean put in a great run from half-way, flew past all opposition, and scored under the posts. Uo converted his own try. Immediately afterwards the Maoris broke away, and a great .passing rush ended in Ituru scoring at tho corner* Ak Urn's 'tick failed. Grammar School 11 Te Ante 6 At the final whistle Akura ran instantly to the Auckland skipper and shook hands. WANCANUI DEFEATED MATCH AT BLENHEIM. FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. BLENHEIM, August 30. Marlborough beat Wanganui by 30 points to 16, after a fast, open, and exciting game, in the presence of a large crowd. The visiting backs were immeasurably superior, and handled the ball faultlessly, but the Marlborough forwards' tackling was very deadly, and easily brought Wanganui'6 efforts to nought. The local forwards excelled in loose rushes, which Wanganui were powerless to stem. Marlborough'* score comprised six tries, one being converted, and Wanganui three trice, two of .which were converted* SIXTH-CLASS RSPS. THE TEAM CHOSEN.
