DAIRY FARMERS

QUESTION OF EXPORT CONTROL. DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. The executive committee set up by the North and South Island Dairy Associations waited upon the Prime Minister and the Minister for Agriculture (Hon. W. Nosworthy) yesterday, introduced by Sir George Hunter, M.P. There were twenty members of Parliament present. Messrs Morton, Goodfellow, and Buckingham, speaking on behalf of the deputation, said that an effort had been made last year to obtain control of the export trade of the dairy produce of the Dominion for the benefit of the producers. The scheme then suggested did not receive sufficient support and other means were sought. It Had now been unanimously agreed hy the executive that the extension of the provisions of the Meat Export Control Act of last year to include dairy produce would "sufficiently put the control of the export trade in the hands of the producers to better the position of the dairy farmer. The executive was calling together the representatives of the dairy industry at a conference to be held in Wellington in a fortnight, and the proposal of the executive would then .be considered! by that conference. If the conference approved the proposal a request would do made for a Bill to be put through during the present session. Mr Massey agreed that co-operation was necessary, and approved of the action being taken by the executive in calling together the conference and ob-‘ taining an expression of approval to the proposal before approaching Parliament.
