M. Charpentier, general secretary of tho French Rugby Union, wrote under dato June 14th, that the .decision not to send a representative team to the Antipodes in the summer of 1922 was confirmed, the absence of the French players from France for six months and the date of their return being the principal reasons for this decision. In reference to the Ranfurly Shield match between Hawke's Bay and Bay of Plenty Unions on September 2nd, the secretary of tho latter wrote that Hawkers Bay stated that they would not give a proportion of the gate as expenses. The chairman assured Mr Turner that the union would do tho best that it could without creating a precedent. It was against the committee's rules to pay for ipjured players. "I think, that if we were to go against our rules in this case, none of the clubs would hold it up against us," was the opinion of Mr J. N. Millard. ''lt is undoubtedly a case of hardship.” Mr Heenan thought that the injured players’ fund should not be tied down more than was absolutely necessary. "Mv view of the injured players’ fund is that it should meet all cases of hardshio without any rules whatsover,” said Mr Prendeville.
