KELBURN TRAM
NEGOTIATIONS FOR PURCHASE. CITY COUNCIL OFFERS £45,000. Negotiations between the City Council and the directors of the Kelburn and Karori Tramway Company for the purchase of the latter’s cable tramway undertaking are still in progress. The Kelburn Company is now considering the terms on which the corporation will be prepared to purchase, a letter embodying the council’s offer having been forwarded within the past few days. It is understood that when, the negotiations first opened _ some weeks ago, the Kelburn Company was willing to sell out at a price in the neighbourhood of £50,000. The figure at which the City Council is willing to take over the cable undertaking as it stands is £45,000. In the event of the Kelburn Cable Company being willing to sell out, a poll of tho ratepayers will be necessary to ratify the purchase by the city. The battle of the routes has yet to be decided.
