MAGISTRATE’S COURT
YESTERDAY'S SITTING. POLICE AND MAINTENANCE CASES. Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., presided at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when two first-offending inebriates were treated in the usual manner. FAILURE TO ACCOUNT. Robert Abercrombie Brown was charged that at Mar ton on May 17th, 1922, he received from J. W. Bowen the sum of £8 on terms requiring him to account or pay same to the Standard Chemical Company and did fraudUTentIv omit to account for or pay same, thereby committing theft. In asking for a remand until the 38th inst., Chief-Detective Kemp explained that probably thirty-five charges of a similar nature would be preferred against accused. THEFT AND RECEIVING. Two young people man and wife, whose names were ordered to be suppressed, were pharged respectively with stealing and receiving gloves, and on the application of Chief-Detective Kemp were remanded until the 28th inst. MAINTENANCE OASES. If Walter Saxuuel Nioholls does not pay arrears amounting to £9 12s in seven days he will have to go tp gaol for two months. Charles William Price, whose arrears totalled £6, was sent to gaol fox a month. Maintenance orders were made as follow: John. Campion Collie, 21s; Phillip S. Corliss, 15s; George James Gooch, £2; Charles Wells, 20s. William John Lawrence, whose arrears amounted to £7, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as he pays 25s per week. With arrears amounting to £3 16s, Thomas Evans was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. Adrian Dyer, who had allowed his arrears to amount to £l7' 10s, was sent to gaol for two months.
