SERIOUS CHARGES AGAINST CLERGYMAN. COLLAPSE UNDER SCRUTINY. FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. TIMARU, August 21. The Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes, minister of Chalmers Presbyterian Church, has received a letter signed by six members of the congregation, which declared: “(1) That he preached un-Scriptural and dangerous doctrine. “(2) Prophesied smooth things, and made ain appear something lees enormous than it was; and “(3) Did not preach the Gospel.” Mr Hughes announced from the pulpit yesterday Ms reception of the letter, and called a meeting of the church session for to-night to consider it, stating that, if the charges were true, he should not be there. The meeting of the session was not open to the Press, but the result was that the session unanimously decided that the charges were groundless, and in a most emphatio manner repudiated them.
