GENERAL ELECTIONS
THE EGMONT SEAT. MR ASTBURY’S CANDIDATURE. Mr D. L. A. Astbury, who has been chosen to contest the Egmont seat for Parliament against Air 0. Hawken, has contested a seat on five previous occasions without success. The Egmonb seat was held by Sir Thomas Mackenzie for a brief period prior to his going Home as High Commissioner, he having defeated Mr Bradshaw Dive, who is now Mayor of Taunango. After Sir Thomas resigned Mr C. A. Wilkinson held the seat for about five years, and was chairman of the Industries Committee which visited all parts of the Dominion and produced a valuable report, which was Laid on the table of the House.
