FAKED “WIRES” ALLEGED
ECHO OF TRENTHAM MEETING. pyn press association. PALMERSTON N., August 21. Frederick John Rendle and Walter Goodyer were charged before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., to-day “that on July 15th, at Feilding, with intent to defraud, they did falsify telegrams relating to Some Fashion and Romance at the recent Treu.th.am race meeting and thereby obtain from William Prince sums of £260 and £65.” Prince, the chief witness, was indemnified by the police from any prosecution relating to bets. Voluminous evidence was given by thirtythree witnesses, the case lasting all day. Both pleaded not guilty and were committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Palmerston North.
