RELIEF OF DISTRESS. “SAVE THE CHILDREN” FUND. Evidence at first hand of the ravages of famine in the stricken areas of Europe will shortly be related. in Wellington by Dr. Armstrong Smith, who has personally witnessed much of the misery and distress that has succeeded the war in the affected ocmntries. Dr Gmith was connected with post-war relief work in Europe in February, 1920, serving first as representative of the Acton Lodge Famine Relief Fund and subsequently as the "Save the Children Fund” chief administrator at Budapest. His experience se far as the famine is concerned has been confined to Armenia, where he declares the greatest suffering is taking plaoe, tens of thousands of orphans being in tho utmost misery and distress. Dr Smith will visit the Dominion, as he is also touring Australia ana South Africa, in connection with: the general appeal being made for the relief of the thousands of homeless and emaciated children for whose benefit the “Save the Children Fund” has been organised. The fund ie feeding and housing 12,000 children in Armenia, 5000 in Poland, between 6000 and 7000 in Budapest, as well as affording relief in most of the countries affected by. the war.
