RAID ON CHINESE
AUCKLAND POLICE BUSY. TWENTY-TWO ARRESTS. Auckland police, under Chief-Detee hive Mcllveuey, raided a two-storey building at 49, Hdbsan street, Auckland, the other night and arrested 22 Chinese on gaming charges. The raid was carefully planned. Shortly after seven o’clock the chiefdetective, with Detectives O’Sullivan, Medklejohn and O’Brien, and Constables Delaney and Marks joined Constable Doel, who had been watching the premises, and securing and silencing a Chinaman who was coming out- of the gate, the officers entered a room on the ground floor, surprising a number of men and barring their egress. There was a large sum of money on the stable, and money in notes gold, silver and copper was also found in .an upstairs room, whilst what are alleged by the police to be gaming outfits were also found. The Chinese were taken to the police station in motor-cars, whereafter they were brought before the court. Tommy Wang Doo was charged with keeping a common gaming house, where Hiaing Gow, a game played with dominoes, mas conducted, and Lee Chew and All Hung with being his assistants, whilst the other 19 men were charged with being found in a common gaming house. Wang Doo was liberated on bail of £IOO, his alleged assistants on bail of £SO, and the others on bail of £5 each, to appear 'before the police court next Friday. Charges of having been found in a common gaming house were preferred against L-oo Au (2-5), Hung (32), Ah Soo (28), Wun (22), Ah Wah (57), She (30), Wing Kong (18), Wong Shiura (24), Jimmy IGee (20), Chen. Jong (30), Ah Hong (22), Ah. So (21), Wong Yee (42), Mong (20), Ah Kit (55), Wong Fong (24), Ohan Fun (29), Wong Cliung (23).
