UNEMPLOYMENT PROBLEM

BLAME PLACED ON VERSAILLES TREATY. REVISION URGED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, July 4. Tho National Railwaymen’s Conference carried a resolution that while unemployment is one of the inherent evils of capitalism, the present abnormality is due directly to the Versailles Treaty, and urges the Government to have it revised. Mr J. H. Thomas, in supporting the motion, said a profound mistake was made among the working dans, some of whom assumed that the substitution of a Labour Government would automatically cure unemployment. Unemployment was not a local or even a national question; it was international. The present Government was returned on the cry of “Hang the Kaiser and make Germany pay.” Mr Lloyd George now saw this was a mistaken policy, and was veering to the other side. Wo could not crush Germany without ourselves having to pay a terrible price. The present policy of France only encouraged the enemies of the new Germany.
