COMMUNITY SINGING

PEOPLE’S “SING” TO-DAY. PROCEEDS FOR UNEMPLOYED FUND. To-day (Wednesday), at the Town Hall, between 12.30 and 1.30, the usual “sing” wall he held, and perhaps it is well to emphasise that this is tn© only people’s “sing” this week. The songleader is Mr G. W. B. Hughes, an old friend of the “Cheer Germors,” and he will >be assisted by Mr W. W. Goudie, soloist, and Mr Charles Parnell, accompanist, in a very entertaining singing hour. Everybody knows that there are many unemployed in Wellington who are in real distress. This week’s “sing” collection will be devoted to the Mayor’s Unemployment Fund, which is intended to find work for the needy. MIDDAY “SING.” DOMINION FARMERS’ INSTITUTE. A GROWING SUCCESS. The usual weekly “sings” held at the Dominion Farmers’ Institute continue to be highly successful, and the “cheer germ” has apparently taken fast hold of the community in the northern end of the city. Judging by the many happy faces and the volume of harmony poured out, it was apparent, yesterday, that many persons who were unable to attend the big Town Hall “sings” wore taking advantage of the opportunity so generously afforded them by the Dominion Farmers’ Institute. Yesterday's "sing” was in every reBpect a great suocees, the Institute Hall being crowded. The song-leader was Mr R. S. Allwright, Miss R. Clapp officiating a* the piano. Air W. Boardman was the Dominion Farmers’ Institute committee’s honorary secretary, and Mr E. R. Wood the honorary treasurer. The collections at the doors amounted to £2 2s. As these community “sings” continue to he so popular, it is announced that another., similar ‘ ‘sing’ ’ will be held at the Dominion Farmers’ Institute next Tuesday, from 1 p.m. till 1.45 p.m. Hie proceeds of these functions are given to a most worthy charitable object—the Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund for the Blind: and considerable praise is due to the Dominion Farmers’ Institute committee and officials for their public-spirited attitude in the matter.
